<p>People suffering from panic attacks are mostly breathing from their chest. However if you learn how to breathe slowly from your stomach, you will be able to reduce the chances of suffering from panic <img class="size-medium wp-image-81 alignleft" title="Using Breathing Technique To Control Panic Attacks, Panic Attacks Breathing" src="http://freepanicattacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/panic-attacks-breathing.gif" alt="Using Breathing Technique To Control Panic Attacks, Panic Attacks Breathing" width="180" height="120" align="left" />attacks! The learning and practicing part is important so that whenever you have the next panic attack you can straightaway start breathing into your stomach. Following are some tips that you might find useful in learning and application of panic attacks breathing into your <a href="http://freepanicattacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/panic-attacks-breathing.gif"></a>.</p>
<p>1. Lie down on the bed with your chest facing upwards. Now place one of your hands firmly onto your stomach and the other one lightly onto your stomach. Inhale heavily and try to concentrate only <span id="more-82"></span>on allowing your stomach to fill with air and not your chest with breathing only six-eight times per minute. In case you still cannot do this try to use a book or anything between 4-6 pounds and repeat the process as stated above. Concentrate on allowing the weight rise when you take in air.</p>
<p>2. Remember to breathe in through your nose and hold it for about 5-7 seconds. Then let the air out through your mouth, slowly, by puckering your lips and letting the air out like a balloon. Or if you like, breathing out through pursed lips as if trying to blow through a drinking straw.</p>
<p>Try to do these for few minutes initially and then you can graduate to up to 15-20 minutes at a stretch. Once you had learned to breathe with your stomach, you got to practice, practice and practice. Remember practice makes perfect! For the first week, practice while lying on your back only for a few breaths at a time. Then slowly increase the practice time to about 15 mins. After that, when you feel comfortable with the panic attacks breathing techniques, start practicing while sitting, and then progressing to standing and then finally practicing it while walking.</p>
<p>Though breathing is good technique to control panic attacks and does not cause much strain, you should not try to go overboard or try to progress too quickly. Just do so gradually. Also, get a help from a friend or someone close by to help you while you are practicing. It helps to have someone else monitor your breathing and then commanding you to do it correctly.</p>
<p>I understand what it feels like to suffer from panic and anxiety attacks. It seems like you will never get on top of it. All you need is the right kind of information and an approach which suits your personality type. Unfortunately, they do not cure the core issue of anxiety and just offer temporary relief from the physical bodily symptoms and gets you addicted in the process. In fact, it can cause a lot of side effects that will make you feel if these drugs are actually making your condition worse.</p>
<p>If you really want to overcome panic attacks, but not just to stop temporary relief from the physical bodily symptoms. Then it&#8217;s important to understand that panic attacks are caused when your mind perceives certain situations and events as potential dangers and triggers a flight/fight mechanism in the body. So the first step to overcome panic attacks is to understand that it is a mental condition and it has nothing to do with treating the physical sensations. You need to now take ownership for the fact that it is your responsibility to re-train your mind into perceiving them as harmless situations and anytime a situation is to come by, it needs to be looked on as a blessed opportunity to overcome your panic attack. This empowered attitude, will put you right on track to meeting anxiety at its tracks and stop letting it ruin your life.</p>
<p>Further, you might already have realized that most of the anxiety is caused by fear of a panic attack coming rather than the actual panic attack itself. Just the thought of a possible panic attack might send your body in shivers. Once you accept yourself for what you are with all the panic attacks and anxiety disorders, you are just getting ready to meet anxiety in its tracks.</p>

The following list identifies the most common symptoms of panic attacks. Experiencing four or more of following panic attack symptoms identifies what are called panic attacks:</p>

<li>Palpitations, pounding heart, or accelerated heart rate<span id="more-59"></span></li>
<li>Sweating</li>
<li>Feeling of choking</li>
<li>Chest pain or discomfort</li>
<li>Nausea or abdominal distress</li>
<li>Derealization (feelings of unreality) or depersonalization (being detached from oneself)</li>
<li>Fear of losing control or going crazy</li>
<li>Trembling or shaking</li>
<li>Sensations of shortness of breath or smothering</li>
<li>Feeling dizzy, unsteady, lightheaded, or faint</li>
<li>Fear of dying</li>
<li>Paresthesias (numbness or tingling sensations)</li>
<li>Chills or hot flushes</li>
</ol>
<p>Experiencing different or more panic attack symptoms than are listed above does not mean that your condition is worse or different, or that you are suffering from another un-diagnosed condition.</p>
<p>You should also know that some people having panic attacks are having intrusive thoughts or fears over something even without any rational reason for that fear. The fear keeps lingering in their minds leading to panic and anxiety.</p>
<p>Chest pain and shortness of breath is the most common of the many signs and symptoms of panic attacks. You will encounter difficulty breathing or getting enough air to breathe. You will also experience pounding rapid heartbeat and palpitation or awareness of your own heartbeat which is really annoying and uncomfortable.</p>
<p>It is also important that you know that these symptoms can be controlled and panic anxiety disorder is treatable.
